3 Things You Need For The Year Ahead (2019)

Firstly, Happy New Year! Can you believe we are already 7 days into the New Year? It’s going quite slowly in my opinion but hey, we made it!

I’ve been spending the first 7 days of 2019 prayerfully planning the year ahead. I feel like this year I’m more sober and more conscientious coming into this new year. As I shared in my previous blog ‘How 2018 shaped me’, last year was filled with first times, discovery and learning.

I’ve spent the last few days, reflecting on 2018 and considering what I need to improve on and setting those improvements as goals, whilst also changing the strategy in achieving them. As opposed to creating new goals altogether! I do have a few new goals, but they are based on the premise of the things I need to work on.

As we progress into 2019, I truly believe that there are 3 key things that we need to have and do to be progressively successful and fruitful in every area of our lives.

1. Prayer

“So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.”

Luke 5:16

Despite the demands and pressures of Jesus’ day to day life, He still took time out to pray. Jesus knew that it was in a place of prayer that He was empowered to be the person, the people needed and demanded.

Prayer is our lifeline, that time that we have with God is essential, to who we are, what we do and where we want to be. You have to put time aside daily to pray into the different areas of your life, to ask the Lord to lead you and order your steps and above all for Him to give you the grace, to honour Him in all your endeavours.

For the first Coffee & Prayer event, we are focusing on prayer because we understand the importance of staying connected to God, through prayer. If you’re struggling in the area of prayer or you’re not sure how to go about it or how to be consistent, come along to the ‘Teach Me How To Pray’ Session. It’s an amazing forum to not only learn about the word but to connect with other likeminded women.

2. Plans

'The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.'

Proverbs 21:5

We all know the old saying, ‘fail to plan, plan to fail’. If we desire to achieve anything, we have to plan for it. Our level of success is determined by how willing we are to plan, thoroughly.

Plan your days, build a routine and healthy habits. Maximise you time, it’s a gift, use it well!

On the other hand, we can have all our plans but it’s God’s counsel that prevails. This is why prayer is key, it’s an opportunity to seek His counsel and wisdom concerning your life. (Proverbs 19:21)

If you desire to know the plan for your life, you need to seek the One who holds the plan. (Jeremiah 29:11) I recommend an upcoming event by my brother, Carl Konadu called ‘Goals To Greatness’. This event is to help you create sustainable plans so that you can reach your goals!

3. People

‘Blessed is the man, Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly..’

Psalms 1:1

Godly community is something that the Lord has really laid on my heart, as I’ve been praying into the New Year. The people around you determine how much you grow. We are a by-product of the people we choose to place ourselves around and the people we allow to speak into our lives.

I think people underestimate just how much influence people have, when we give them access to the intimate parts of us. Your closest friends should point you to Christ and push you to remain in His will. If you truly want to excel, you need to get around a circle of people that are likeminded, that you can be accountable to.

You cannot stay in a relationship out of convenience or based on the time served. Learn to define your relationships, stop bringing people into your inner circle, that you’re meant to be mentoring/pouring into. This will help you to manage your expectations and avoid disappointments, when it comes to your relationships because you’ve defined them.

As you move forward into 2019, forgive and make peace with the relationships that didn’t work. So that you can embrace new ones!

Pray and ask the Lord to bring people into your life that can sharpen you, as well as take from you. However, be intentional make time to build Godly relationships.

Check out Michael Todds series ‘Inner Circle’, he discusses the need for Godly community. It’s so good! This year is going to be good but even when it gets hard, remember it's working for your good.
