Keeping The Momentum: 3 Things You Need To know

As we continue to progress into this new year, wait! Can you believe it’s the end of January already? Anyway, there’s 3 key things that I believe are important for us to remember, especially in the first quarter of this year.

Do not despise small beginnings – This is something that I really feel God keeps reiterating to me. Especially as I pursue some of the dreams that are on my heart. Slow and steady growth is still growth and you will bloom and see the fruit/result of the present investments/seeds in due time. The worst thing we can do at the beginning or the start of anything we do is compare our journey with someone else’s. It’s okay to admire and be inspired by another person but it’s also just as important to concentrate on the path that you are on, and keeping your eyes on God, which leads me to my next point. (Zechariah 4:10)

Focus on what matters – You have to try so hard to maintain your focus. You have to ask yourself, ‘what matters to me right now?’ and ‘what is worth my mental space?’ ‘What do I have capacity for? Make a note and prioritise those things and ensure you don’t exert unnecessary energy and time on the things that really do not matter. Remember that what matters most is your relationship with God because it influences the core of who you are, how you are and what you do. (Proverbs 4:25-27)

It’s okay not to be okay – This is a major one, we will have moments of sadness, discouragement, doubt and anxiety. We may get it wrong and experience failure, things won’t always be so perfect and that’s okay. I’m learning this, it’s key that when you are down not to stay down and dwell in those feelings, it promotes stagnancy and complacency. In those moments it’s important to channel and release how you feel, this can be through prayer and journaling. It’s also always good to speak to someone and talk through what’s happening with you in those moments and most importantly to look to the scriptures and to remind yourself of the truth of Gods amazing grace and His great ability to carry you through any moment you experience. (Isaiah 40:31)

On a very practical note – being in a different environment that promotes inspiration and motivation always helps. That looks different for everyone, I love going for a walk in green areas or going to the gym. You've got to identify what makes you come alive.

I pray this helps you keep your momentum as you move forward into this new year, stay prayerful, keep Christ in view and stay focused.
